         3. M.Sc. Applied Statistics with Computer Applications.

The College offers a Master of Science program in Applied Statistics with  Computer Applications in the principal areas of Operations Research, Statistics and Computer, providing students with skills in the modeling of real-world decision problems, the use of computer software to solve these models, and the statistical and mathematical methodology by which these solutions are found. Operations research is concerned with effective decision making when managing complex, large-scale systems. Operations research uses a combination of mathematical and statistical models, computer software, and common sense to analyze the constraints and relationships that determine the operations of a complex system. This knowledge is then used to control the functioning of that system so as to obtain the most desirable goals and outcomes.  Operations Researchers work in a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, business, engineering, economics, the natural and     social sciences,  transport, retailing, marketing, financial, water, power, telecommunications   and mining, education and service sectors as well as local and central government  (The Hindu, opportunities, 23^rd  April 2003).
