Our
Inspiration
The College
is named after our heavenly Patron, Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara,
the Co-founder of the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary
Immaculate (CMI), is our source of inspiration. His glorious vision
of moulding new generation through education deeply rooted in the
faith in God and love of humanity, is taken up by our institutions
and we take pride in discharging this noble
responsibility.
History
Kuriakose
Elias College, Mannanam, established in 1964 and named after Blessed
Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the heavenly patron and co-founder of the
congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.) is a first-
grade college affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam with
faculties of science, Arts and Commerce. It is managed by the Roman
Catholic Syrian minority community and imparts sound moral training
and secular education to all young men and women belonging to all
castes and communities. The college is owned by St. Joseph's
Monastery Mannanam, the Mother House of the C.M.I. congregation and
comes under the purview of the chapter and the Education Committee
of the Monastery. The Prior of St. Joseph's Monastery is the Manager
of the College. The general management of the College is vested in
the Governing Body whose ex-officio president is the
Manager.
The college
is situated on a beautiful hillock facing the backwaters of the
Upper Kuttanad at Mannanam in Athirampuzha Panchayath of Kottayam District in Kerala. Kottayam the land of Letters, Latex and
Lakes is about 150 kms to the north of Thiruvananthapuram, the
capital city of Kerala.

Mission
To
facilitate comprehensive and integral development of individuals who
effectively function as instruments of social changes imbued with
righteousness and courage of conviction: Dare to Dream and Strive to
Achieve.
The college coat of
arms
The College
coat of arms is a shield shaped with a crown having a small cross at
the top and a scroll at the bottom. The scroll proclaims the motto "Thamasoma
Jyothirgamaya" The rising sun at the Centre of the emblem beams the
perpetual light of glory on the palm filled landscape revealing the beauty and sanctity of the rural settling in
which the college is situated. The boat with the boatman symbolizes
one's sense of duty and the lotus his purity of heart. The lighted
lamp emphasizes ones quest for knowledge and the open book, the seat
of knowledge. The flowering plant visualizes the totality of human
aspirations, his growth and success. The golden crown and cross on
top of the emblem represents God Almighty showering His love and
blessings on all, and remind us " No cross, no crown".
AIMS AND
OBJECTIVES
The
congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), one of the
leading educational agencies in India, believes that education is
the main spring of integral formation of the human person for the
fulfillment of his /her individual and social responsibilities. The
society,therefore, undertakes rendering of this prime service, based
on love of God and service to the mankind as modelled in Jesus
Christ, in a background of Indian heritage so as to produce an
integral person.
In pursuance
of the above general objectives of education, the college has been
defining its objectives from time to time. The following are the
objectives of K. E. College that form the flesh and blood of this
Prestigious Institution:-

To create a just
and human society where dignity of the human person is respected,
where unjust social structures are challenged, where our cultural
heritage of Ahimsa, Religious Harmony and National Integration are
upheld and where the poor and the marginalized are specially taken
care of.

leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature,
morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy
and socially acceptable, who will champion the cause of justice,
love , truth and peace.

To promote
the acquisition of scholarship and communicative skills in the
students through research oriented projects and extra -curricular
activities.

To prepare
the youth for the 21st century, which brings the prospects of
international brotherhood, environmental consciousness, gender
justice and highly advanced technologies.
For the
accomplishment of the above goals the college is putting in special
efforts to enable the students to strive for excellence in every
field, to seek and apply knowledge to the solutions of problems, to
value and use their freedom responsibly, to be clear and firm on
principles and values and to be unselfish in rendering services,
through a team of teachers who are active, dedicated, competent and
humane in dealings. |
